Culture part 2

Culture Shock- At the Age 14 I was finally able to leave NYC and got the chance to live in Richmond VA. I lived out there for 6 years, at first I felt like I just didn't belong. As I started making friends out there I started to see how different they was from my NYC friends. In the city its like everybody from the hood are so shallow and materialistic. When every new pair of Jordans come out everybody has to have them. It wasn't like that in VA, they didn't care about what you wore they actually wanted to get to know you for who you was and not for what you wear. It took me quite some time to stop judging people on their clothes.

Symbols- The Eagle is the symbol for United States of American, because of its long life great strenght and majestic looks, and also because it was then believed to exist only on this conitnent. The eagle also represent freedom

Belief-  I grew up believing that there is a God, and that if you live your life the way he want you to then you will be sent to heaven and also another thing I believe in is

Something my Mother Value a lot. She constantly telling me if you want something you have to work for it and if you cant get it your not working harder to get it.

Folkway- Something my family always teasing me about. I'm known to pick my nose any and every where

Xenophobia- Talk about gays which I have been a victim because I am not like the typical dude from the block. I don't play sports but honestly all this did for me was teach me to be a stronger person

Behavior- My behavior is not influenced by my surroundings and even thought I have been exposed to crime, drugs etc I do not want to ever be a part of that lifestyle

Counter Culture- Drug dealers that go against the grain and justify it by saying "I had to do what  I gotta do also

Dialect- Another funny thing about growing up in the BX you learn all the slang which is Multiculterism because not only blacks use slang but its an a very diverse dialect.

  1. I also believe that the only way we can improve ourselves, develop skills, become knowledgeable, and accomplish goals is through work. And “The harder you work the better you become!” This is so true!
The culture in Brazil is also very materialistic. People make value judgment about others that are based on how much material possessions they have, how attractive they look like and what are the social statuses that they hold. I understand exactly what you mean about how important it is to break thinking habits rooted on misconceptions, stereotypes and bias, so we can get to know people for who they really are and not for what they have, look like, or wear.

  2. I think that you did a nice job with the imagery but you should work on the content.
